SWEPCO crews across the service area are working quickly and safely to restore power following last night’s severe weather. The hardest hit areas include parts of Shreveport south of Interstate 20 and southern Bossier Parish.
Restoration and response is underway by SWEPCO crews across the affected service areas after powerful storms brought damaging winds, hail and severe flooding to parts of the ArkLaTex.
Flooding creates a unique and dangerous restoration environment. Flooding can make it more difficult to safely make repairs, which may result in longer than usual power restoration times.
Restoration times
As of 2:00 p.m., Thursday, approximately 5,000 customers were without power. At the peak of the storm’s impact, approximately 16,800 customers were without power. SWEPCO has provided estimated restoration times for areas impacted by the storm. However, service could be restored soon.
SWEPCO estimates power will be restored to 95 percent of customers by these times:
- Bossier City: 10:00 p.m., May 23
- Vivian: 10:00 p.m., May 23
- Plain Dealing: 10:00 p.m., May 23
- Shreveport: 5:00 p.m., May 24
- Haughton: 5:00 p.m., May 24
Post storm safety tips
- Stay as far away as possible from downed wires and anything they may be touching. Call 911 to report any hazards or call SWEPCO immediately at (888) 218-3919.
- Carefully investigate before cleaning up any debris. Tree limbs, leaves and other objects moved by the wind could hide downed wires.
- Do not attempt to remove tree limbs or debris within 10 feet of a power line.
- If using a generator, be sure to follow the manufacturer's instructions.
