With so many changes and updates to the regulations that affect the electrical industry, everyone in the chain must keep up to date with the latest requirements. When it comes to adequate protection for ventilation equipment, not all manufacturers are installing internal fuses to protect the equipment. Instead, they are stating in their installation literature that the fan requires overload protection via a 1, 3, or 5 Amp fuse.

17th Edition regulation (134.1.1 of BS7671:2008 incorporating amendment No 1:2011) does require electrical equipment to be installed by the instructions provided by the manufacturers of the equipment.

As standard across their molded and decorative ranges, Scolmore offers a 10A 3 Pole Fan Isolation Switch and a Fused Connection Unit Module all in one Switch Plate. Not only does this address the issue of safe overload protection, but it also provides a cost-effective method of isolating fans that is quick and easy to install.
