Scolmore is delighted to have secured the appointment of former BSI Electrical Testing Engineer, Michael Dunn, to take up the role of Senior Testing Engineer for the Scolmore Group of companies. Michael Dunn brings with him a wealth of experience garnered during an impressive career which includes working within electrical installation and maintenance with a number of contracting firms in the early years, and latterly as electrical and lighting testing engineer for British Standards Institution. He joins from his most recent role as electrical testing team leader with BSI. Working alongside the technical team At Scolmore, Michael Dunn will be working alongside the technical team At Scolmore, Michael Dunn will be working alongside the technical team, providing vital product testing services across the whole group – Scolmore, ESP, Ovia and Unicrimp. He will have overall responsibility for managing the testing requirements for effective delivery of compliant products.  Michael Dunn’s other duties will include working to ensure that industry best practice is being adopted for products selected and making sure that test equipment and tools are well managed, calibrated and appropriate, so as to meet the changing needs of the products required to operate in the electrical contracting marketplace. His input will be highly valuable especially in the current environment where scrutiny of standards and compliance in the industry has never been higher.”

Scolmore Group is delighted to have been voted ‘Supplier of the Year’ by Electricbase, one of the UK’s largest electrical wholesalers supplying contractors, installers, commercial and industrial users from its network of nationwide branches. The awards ceremony took place on the evening of the company’s annual conference and trade show which took place before lockdown at the Royal Armouries Museum in Leeds, United Kingdom. Scolmore voted ‘Supplier of the Year’ Scolmore Group’s Sales Director, Kevin Beech, was presented with the ‘Supplier of the Year’ trophy Scolmore Group, along with other key suppliers, had the opportunity to showcase products from across the group of companies – Scolmore, Ovia, ESP and Unicrimp - and network with contacts from all levels of the Electricbase organization.  Scolmore Group’s Sales Director, Kevin Beech, was presented with the ‘Supplier of the Year’ trophy, by Electricbase’s General Manager, Paul Simister and Commercial Manager, Steve Poulson. When DIY SOS: The Big Build BBC Children in Need Special is aired (Wednesday, 13th November) it will show the transformation of a rundown church hall, into a much-needed emergency accommodation and support center for Nightsafe: a Blackburn charity which provides support to young people aged 16 to 24 who are homeless or vulnerably housed. With just nine days to complete the project, which took place in early September, resident electrician Billy Byrne sought the help of Scolmore to supply all the electrical accessories needed to complete this ambitious build. Fire-rated downlights He took a special trip down the M6 to Scolmore’s headquarters in the Midlands, where he picked up the supplies. Switches and sockets from Scolmore’s Mode range of wiring accessories, Inceptor Omni integrated fire-rated downlights from OVIA, and cable accessories from Unicrimp were all donated for installation in the new accommodation.  The Nightsafe charity at the heart of this special project was set up in 1990 by a group of locals The Nightsafe charity at the heart of this special project was set up in 1990 by a group of locals to meet the growing needs of homeless young people. With the original building bursting at the seams and no longer big enough to cater for the growing demand in the area, an urgent solution was required. Independent living skills The transformation of the building to a purpose-built support center and short-term accommodation will give these young people a place to call home whilst they develop independent living skills. DIY SOS is celebrating its 20th year and Scolmore has been helping out with product donations for a variety of builds for the past 10 years, ever since industry legend, Tony Cable, first introduced Scolmore to the TV show’s Electrician, Billy Byrne. Billy took time out during his recent visit to film a segment for Scolmore’s YouTube channel SGTV - giving an insight into this special project.
