SWEPCO is increasingly hearing from customers who have been contacted by someone claiming to be a SWEPCO partner and asking if they would be interested in solar panels for their home.
"It's important for our customers to know that SWEPCO does not sell solar panels and is not associated with any company that does," said William Bradford, Jr., SWEPCO's Vice President of External Affairs.

"There are many factors that determine whether this will make financial sense for a customer," explained Jeff Thigpen, Alternative Energy Resources Manager.
He adds, "That's an important reason why SWEPCO encourages customers to ask questions and be informed before committing to a contract, especially one that may include hidden costs."
Customer's SWEPCO bill
If installed correctly, solar systems will produce some electricity. However, whether this self-generated energy saves the homeowner money depends largely on the amount the customer will pay for the system. It's important to remember that this payment will be in addition to the customer's SWEPCO bill, which will not be completely eliminated.
"We believe that before a consumer makes any investment, they should take the time to research the product, the costs, the company selling the system, and any long-term commitments so they have the facts they need to make the decision that's best for them and their family," said Paul Pratt, SWEPCO's Director of Customer Service and Marketing.
Some important points
- SWEPCO is not associated with ANY solar panel installation company, nor does it endorse one over another.
- SWEPCO does not send anyone to homes to sell any of its products, including solar panels.
- If the customer's electric account is active, the customer will continue to receive a bill from SWEPCO. SWEPCO will also continue to have a meter on the customer's property.
- It is not true that purchasing a solar system will completely eliminate the electricity bill.
- Solar systems without battery backup will not provide power during a grid outage or at night.
