On his appointment as Director on the Board of Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL), Mr. Jai Prakash Srivastava, 57, has assumed charge as Director (Engineering, Research & Development) of the Public Sector Engineering and Manufacturing Enterprise.
Prior to this, Mr. Srivastava was heading BHEL’s Industry Sector business segment as Executive Director. He is a Mechanical Engineering graduate from IIT Roorkee, with a post graduate degree in Business Administration.

Jai Prakash Srivastava started his career with BHEL as an Engineer Trainee, in the company’s Insulator Plant, in Jagdishpur, India, in 1985. He has over 36 years of diverse and extensive experience across all major functions of the company.
These include Marketing & Business Development, Project Management, Manufacturing, Operations, Planning & Development, Engineering, R&D, Information Technology, Human Resource Management, and Strategic & Stakeholder Management in various capacities across the entire BHEL value chain in manufacturing units at Jagdishpur, Rudrapur and Visakhapatnam, business verticals (Industry Sector and International Operations) and Corporate Office, including a two-year stint as Head of CMD’s Secretariat.

Prior to his elevation, he was Head of Industry Sector, one of the three business sectors of Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited, responsible for enabling BHEL’s diversification focus by driving capability building through technology collaborations & business partnerships, time-bound capital investments and commercial-oriented R&D projects to enhance business.
During his tenure at Industry Sector, Industrial Products (Mechanical), Captive Power Plants, Defense & Aerospace business verticals recorded the highest-ever order booking and maiden entries were made into the downstream Oil & Gas EPC and Defense & Aerospace Businesses.

Earlier as Head of the company’s manufacturing unit at Rudrapur, India, Jai Prakash Srivastava was instrumental in developing several new products in existing & new growth areas, as well as optimizing operations with focus on cost reduction & efficient project execution for improved turnover realization and profit maximization, which resulted in the best financial results in the last 5 years for the unit.
He is known for his dynamism and result-oriented approach by enthusing energy in the team, in order to drive efficiencies at all levels.

Jai Prakash Srivastava’s wide exposure to various business areas of BHEL viz. Defense & Aerospace, Power (Thermal, Gas, Renewable Energy), Oil & Gas, Industrial Products (Electrical & Mechanical), Transmission Products, International Operations, and almost all product lines of the company, has enriched him with a strong acumen to analyze market trends & to develop market-ready capabilities, enabling him to contribute effectively in formulation & implementation of strategies in the changing business environment & position BHEL to be future ready.
He has been responsible for various initiatives resulting in many ‘First Achievements’ throughout his professional career.
