On Thursday, July 25, more than a dozen high school students will celebrate their graduation from Canyon State Electric's inaugural electrical summer internship program. The ceremony, which includes a lunch, awards presentation, and open house, will take place at 4636 E McDowell Rd., Phoenix, AZ 85008.
Event Schedule and Highlights
The event kicks off at 10:00 am with an open house, followed by lunch at 11:00 am. The awards and recognition ceremony begins at 11:30 am, and the day will conclude with another open house and social hour starting at noon. Attendees will have an opportunity to explore the venue and engage in a Q&A session.
Insights into the Internship Program
Throughout the eight-week internship, students—upcoming juniors and seniors involved in construction technology careers programs—have been immersed in the electrical trade. Their education included interactive classroom sessions, hands-on training, and role-playing exercises designed to deepen their understanding of the field.
"There’s a huge demand for skilled labor in the trades," stated Sidney Hawkins, Safety & Training Director at Canyon State Electric. "These students are showing an interest in construction careers early on—we want to encourage that interest and develop it into a passion."
Opportunities and Future Prospects
Robert Hughes, President of CSE, shared his perspective on the career trajectory available through construction: "That's how I started, as a high schooler helping on small remodeling projects in my hometown. We want these students to know that construction is a career path that can take them places, and Canyon State Electric's doors are open when they graduate."
