On July 15, 2020, Qinghai Henan ±800kV UHVDC project started power transmission, marking a major milestone in the construction of the project. Along this green power channel, Qinghai's renewable energy power has spanned thousands of miles, lighting the lights of Henan.

The project starts from Hainan of Qinghai Province and ends in Zhumadian, Henan Province, China. The total length of the line is 1587 Km. Two converter stations, Hainan and Zhumadian, are newly built with a transmission capacity of 8000MW.

NR’s core equipment used for Qingyu project

NR has provided the core equipment for Qingyu project, included converter valve

NR has provided the core equipment for Qingyu project, included converter valve, valve cooling system, DC protection & control, current transformer, DC voltage divider, phasor measurement, AC protection, stability control system, grounding electrode detection system, fire automation system and other core equipment.

The project focuses on solving the technical challenges of large-scale transmission of high proportion of renewable energy, interactive characteristics of renewable energy with UHVDC, and UHVDC transmission in high altitude areas.

Qinghai Henan ±800kV UHVDC project

Qinghai is located in the western region of China, which is an important area of China's renewable energy production. The State Grid Corporation of China (SGCC) has made an in-depth study on the development of renewable energy resources output and the construction of UHVDC transmission channels from Qinghai to Henan.

The project passes through Qinghai, Gansu, Shaanxi and Henan provinces, with a transmission capacity of 8 MW and a total investment of 22.3 billion CNY. After fully put into operation, 40 billion KWH of clean electricity can be delivered to Henan every year.

Successful commissioning of Qingyu HVDC project

The successful commissioning of Qingyu HVDC project has further consolidated NR’s major position in UHVDC transmission field.

Based on more than 20 years of technology accumulation and global engineering application, NR will continue to be committed to improving safe, efficient and economical LCC-HVDC and VSC-HVDC solutions for global customer.
