Ameren Transmission has announced opportunities for community engagement regarding the Illinois Valley Reliability Project, a 23-mile transmission line aimed at enhancing energy reliability and grid strength, while supporting economic growth in Bureau and LaSalle counties.
Local residents are encouraged to participate in upcoming open houses to voice their opinions and gather information.
Open House Sessions
Residents can attend open houses scheduled for Wednesday, November 5, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and again from 5 to 7 p.m. at Peru City Hall, located at 1901 4th Street, Peru.
Another session will be held on Thursday, November 6, at Bureau County Metro Center, 837 Park Avenue West, Princeton, during the same time slots. Additionally, a virtual open house will be accessible via the project’s website from November 4 to November 17.

The Illinois Valley Reliability Project comprises the construction of a new, approximately 23-mile, 138-kilovolt transmission line. It also involves upgrades to the existing Princeton substation and the development of a new switching station, designated Lima, near Peru.
The new transmission line will link the Lima switching station to the updated Princeton substation, enhancing the local grid's resilience.
Engagement Opportunities
At each open house, attendees can expect hands-on access to identical project information, including updates, potential route segments, and avenues for public input. The format is informal, allowing participants to join and leave as they wish, with no structured agenda or formal presentations.
The virtual open house will provide a slide presentation with detailed project and routing information, as well as an interactive map for community feedback. More information is available on the project’s website, indicating this is the final series of open houses.

Keith Jones, Project Manager for the Illinois Valley Reliability Project, expressed gratitude for the community's contributions thus far, stating, “We appreciate the valuable feedback we’ve received from neighbors during our previous open houses, and we’ve used that input to help further refine route options that reflect community priorities and considerations.”
