Canyon State Electric (CSE) and the Arizona division of the American Heart Association (AHA) have honored Arline Nazario of McCarthy Building Companies with the Steven Maderazzo Lifestyle Change Award.
This accolade, in its second year, celebrates construction industry professionals who have made impactful health and lifestyle improvements.
Recognizing Positive Change in the Construction Industry
Nazario faced a critical health challenge earlier this year when she was diagnosed with a leaking heart valve and high blood pressure.
These conditions, if left untreated, can lead to heart rhythm complications and possible heart failure, according to the Mayo Clinic.
A Commitment to Health
Determined to improve her health, she embarked on a lifestyle transformation
"After the diagnosis, it really clicked for me. I realized it was serious. I knew if I didn't fix it, I wasn't going to be around for my kids to get married or have children," said Nazario.
Determined to improve her health, she embarked on a lifestyle transformation. She enhanced her diet, increased her physical activity to over ten thousand steps per day, reduced her blood pressure, shed twelve pounds, and averaged seven hours of sleep per night.
A Community Inspiration
Recognizing these efforts, Mike Gonzalez, Vice President of McCarthy Building Companies, nominated her for the award.
"She is feeling better, serves as an inspiration to those around her, and is a heart health champion in our office," Gonzalez remarked. "She is an amazing partner that we feel deserves recognition with the Steven Maderazzo Lifestyle Change Award."
Championing Health and Wellness
The award was presented to Nazario at the AHA’s Phoenix at Heart Executive Breakfast on Thursday, September 14. Stephanie Maderazzo-Hughes, CEO of Canyon State Electric, expressed the significance of this recognition.
"We’re proud to give this award to Arline, who shares our company’s values of health and wellness. Her hard work and dedication set an example of what is possible for those in the construction industry and in the community," she stated.
Nazario’s achievements are not only personal milestones but also a beacon for others. "Knowing that someone sees my hard work means something to me, and I hope that this encourages someone else to do the same for themselves and their family," Nazario shared, highlighting the broader impact of her journey.
