Canyon State Electric (CSE) has achieved national recognition for its commitment to safety, receiving accolades from the Independent Electrical Contractors (IEC) organization. Out of 3,600 member firms nationwide, CSE was one of only twelve to receive the Superior Achievement in Safety award.
This recognition was granted during IEC's annual SPARK conference, which evaluates safety performance across more than twenty categories, including management commitment, employee involvement, personal protective equipment (PPE) use, and meticulous recordkeeping. Canyon State Electric earned top marks across the board.
Commitment to a Secure Work Environment
Sidney Hawkins, Safety and Training Manager at Canyon State Electric, emphasized the company's cultural dedication to safety, stating, "Safety is the company culture. Our staff focuses on the safety of the person working near them. They genuinely care about each other. That mindset makes Canyon State one of the safest companies I have ever worked for."
President Robert Hughes echoed this sentiment, noting the broader impact of their safety-first mindset: "We want everyone to go home to their families healthier and wealthier each day. Safety is our number one core value, and we have ensured at each level of the company, it is our highest priority. We talk the talk and walk the walk."
Active Safety Partnerships and Initiatives
Canyon State Electric has a three-year partnership with the ADSOH
Canyon State Electric has a three-year partnership with the Arizona Department of Occupational Safety and Health (ADOSH) aimed at further enhancing its health and safety protocols.
Since the beginning of this agreement, the company has maintained an experience modification rating (EMR) of under 0.7, a figure that is 30% below the industry norm, reflecting lower job site risks and insurance premiums.
Future Safety Enhancements
As CSE approaches the end of its agreement with ADOSH, preparations are underway to apply for the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Voluntary Protection Program (VPP).
Achieving the VPP star status is OSHA's highest commendation for recognizing outstanding workplace safety. However, Sidney Hawkins revealed the company's ambitions extend beyond this goal: "We are already looking beyond VPP. What comes after VPP? That’s what we want."
