Identifying Gaps in Heat Pump Data
Participants pointed out that there is a significant scarcity and inconsistency in the technical, economic, and performance data available for heat pumps across different markets and regions.
This lack of uniform data complicates efforts to compare international progress and poses challenges in pinpointing areas that require further research and technological innovation. An exclusive afternoon session echoed this theme, focusing on collaborative efforts for data unification and alignment among organizations.
The Role of Data Collection and Reporting
The IEA is at the forefront of efforts to improve heat pump data reporting but recognizes the need for enhanced cooperation to adopt regional best practices. Critical to this initiative is international collaboration to standardize definitions necessary for consistent data-reporting frameworks and methodologies.
This initiative aligns with ongoing efforts by the Heat Pump Coordination Group, established in 2024 under the leadership of five IEA Technology Collaboration Programs, to strengthen data collection and reporting practices as supported by the IEA’s Committee on Energy Research and Technology.
