Danfoss Power Solutions has unveiled the CAN 2 Current (C2C), a compact microcontroller engineered for solenoid-mounted applications with Danfoss cartridge valves, hydraulic integrated circuits (HICs), hybrid PVG/HIC valves, and open-circuit pumps.
The integration with the controller area network (CAN) bus facilitates precise and efficient actuation of components, while also streamlining diagnostic processes.
Diverse Application and Protocol Compatibility
The C2C is also compatible with ISOBUS and SAE J1939 communication protocols
Designed as a high-performance device, C2C ensures repeatable and consistent control by utilizing CAN bus protocols. It offers closed-loop current control capabilities across either one or two outputs.
The device is adaptable for use with on/off and proportional solenoids, available in single- or dual-channel versions. While the single-channel variant manages one coil, the dual-channel version can manipulate two coils sequentially. The C2C is also compatible with ISOBUS and SAE J1939 communication protocols.
Energy Efficiency and Rugged Design
C2C optimizes energy use with its peak-and-hold control technology, significantly reducing the energy needed during the hold phase of solenoid activation. This approach can decrease energy consumption by up to 70% in extended-hold scenarios, like clamping, thereby potentially lowering cooling demands and battery requirements in certain battery-electric machinery.
The microcontroller boasts a compact and durable design, featuring resin-potted construction to withstand dust, dirt, shock, and vibration. Its IP67 ingress protection rating ensures reliability in rigorous off-highway conditions.

By incorporating the CAN bus, C2C simplifies diagnostics, allowing real-time communication between the microcontroller and the machine controller. Status updates can be conveyed to operators via a cabin display, eliminating the need for manual troubleshooting of solenoid issues.

Streamlined Setup and Configuration
The C2C is designed for user-friendly setup, part of the broader Danfoss Power Solutions actuator portfolio known for its standardized setup and control procedures. This consistency applies across both C2C and PVE configurations for various valve solutions.
Configuration is facilitated through the PLUS+1® Service Tool, offering a familiar platform for adjusting parameters such as communication time guarding, dither, minimum and maximum current, and hold current.
