Recently, Albasa station in Ethiopia, one of the first batch of microgrid projects of the World Bank ‘lighting Africa’, has been successfully put into operation. A steady stream of electricity continues to be delivered to the surrounding remote villages, bringing light to the local people.
The World Bank’s ‘lighting Africa’ microgrid project aims to provide better, cleaner and safer off grid energy for remote villages and suburban towns, and promote African economic development.
The Albasa microgrid
NR was chosen to provide microgrid solutions for the project, including microgrid energy management system
The Albasa microgrid located in Benishangul Gumuz area is mainly composed of distributed power sources such as photovoltaic, energy storage and diesel generators.
NR was chosen to provide microgrid solutions for the project, including microgrid energy management system, microgrid coordination controller, energy storage converter, photovoltaic inverter and other core equipment.
Fast coordinating control technology of IEC-61850
The solution integrates the fast coordinating control technology of IEC-61850, the industry-renowned virtual synchronous machine technology of energy storage and conversion, which effectively guarantees the continuous, safe and stable operation of the off grid system.
The successful operation of the project has been highly praised by the Ethiopian Electric Utility (EEU) and local media.
NR develops the core technologies for energy storage
NR will continue to develop the core technologies for energy storage, renewable power generation and microgrid control, gives full play to the advantages of technology and engineering experience.
Focused on renewable energy and microgrid solution, NR will provide better products & solutions for the global microgrid market.
