On August 15, 2022, the energy storage system of Zhejiang Xiaoshan Power Plant was successfully connected to the grid. This project is the first generation side energy storage project in Zhejiang Province.

For the first time in China, a large-scale electrochemical energy storage power station was built independently and coordinated by the existing site of decommissioned generator sets.

The successful operation of the project will greatly improve the peak shaving capacity of the power system, deal with sudden failures of the power grid, meet the requirements for high-quality, safe and reliable power supply, and become an important part of Zhejiang’s source-grid-load storage friendly and flexible power grid.

The total installed capacity of the energy storage system of Xiaoshan Power Plant is planned to be 100 MW/200 MWh. It will be constructed in two phases.

The first phase is a 50 MW/100 MWh energy storage system, all of which use lithium iron phosphate battery energy storage systems, to provide fast and flexible peak regulation services for the power grid.

At the same time, it can provide a variety of power auxiliary services, such as frequency regulation, phase regulation, backup, black start, demand response, etc. accomplish. NR Electric provided the battery modules, PCS, PMS, EMS, etc. for this project.

The "4S" battery energy storage products provided by NR include: PCS (Power Conversion System), BMS (Battery Management System), EMS (Energy Management System) and PMS (Power Management System).

Among them, PCS realizes the bidirectional power flow between battery and power grid; BMS realizes effective management and control of the battery; EMS monitors and controls the entire energy storage system to realize the steady-state function to ensure the safe and reliable operation of the system; PMS realizes high-speed transient control and according to different application scenarios, formulates corresponding control strategies to reasonably control the coordinated operation of multiple PCS.
