Southwestern Electric Power Company (SWEPCO) has launched its new "Pay As You Go" program in Louisiana, offering customers a more flexible approach to managing their electricity payments.
This initiative enables customers to prepay for electricity, much like topping up a gift card, thereby helping them avoid surprise bills. Customers receive alerts when their balance is low, prompting them to add funds accordingly.
Key Features of Pay As You Go
The program features several appealing aspects. Notably, no security deposit or credit check is required for enrollment. Additionally, it aids those with outstanding balances by designating 20% of pre-payments to past dues, while the remaining 80% applies to future energy use.
Customers also benefit from daily alerts updating them on their account balance and energy consumption. Payments can be made either online or in-person without relying on a traditional monthly bill process.
Eligibility and Additional Details
Most customers equipped with qualifying smart meters, or Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI), are eligible to participate.
"We're excited to offer this flexible payment option," said Paul Pratt, Director of Customer Service and Marketing for SWEPCO, adding "Pay As You Go not only empowers our customers to take charge of their energy spending, but also allows them to customize their experience. With the ability to set their own balance alerts, they can enjoy peace of mind and avoid any unexpected surprises on their bills."
