SWEPCO will pick up and dispose of old refrigerators for Arkansas customers and pay them $75 for their participation. Refrigerators must be working to be eligible for this no cost pick-up and recycling program.
Additionally, if customers purchase a new refrigerator that is ENERGY STAR certified for energy efficiency, SWEPCO will give them an additional $75 as part of its energy efficiency incentive program. See below for more details on the ENERGY STAR incentive program.
Improving energy efficiency
The no-cost refrigerator pick-up and disposal program is only available to SWEPCO customers
According to ENERGY STAR, an energy efficiency certification program administered by the U.S Environmental Protection Agency, old refrigerators use up to twice as much energy as new energy-efficient models.
Improving energy efficiency in homes lowers energy bills for customers and strengthens energy reliability across the region.

Additional Energy Efficient Appliance Incentives
SWEPCO’s refrigerator removal and incentive program is part of SWEPCO’s robust energy efficiency program aimed at helping customers reduce energy bills with more efficient appliances.
The program offers incentive pay ranging from $25 to more than $1,100 for the purchase of more than a dozen types of ENERGY STAR certified energy efficient appliances, from water heaters to thermostats, dishwashers and dryers. No-Cost Home Energy Assessment
SWEPCO also offers home energy assessments and weatherization upgrades that keep homes cool in summer and warm in the winter at no cost to customers.
These assessments and upgrades improve comfort, air quality and safety. If inefficiencies are found, upgrades to improve the home include air sealing, duct sealing and attic insulation at no charge. Call 888-266-3130 to schedule an appointment.
This program also provides incentives for energy-efficient home improvements like insulation, duct sealing, smart thermostats and heat pumps.
