Wasatch Electrical successfully completed all electrical work for Stadler’s new 230,000-square-foot manufacturing facility, marking Stadler’s first plant in the United States.
The extensive project required efficient management and coordination due to the building's considerable size and the tight timeline set for completion. By leveraging proven material and resource management techniques, Wasatch Electric ensured the project was completed both on time and within budget.
Client Objectives and Facility Features
Stadler Rail aimed to enhance their manufacturing capabilities by establishing a presence in the United States. The new facility is designed to support various operations, including the assembly, testing, and commissioning of passenger trains.
In addition to these production areas, the site features dedicated spaces for receiving and warehousing materials, office areas, training facilities, locker rooms, and an employee cafeteria.

The wide-ranging scope of this project encompassed several critical systems: electrical installations, telecommunications, fire alarm, security systems, lighting systems and control, power services and distribution, lightning protection, audio/visual installations, site lighting, and access control systems.
Key solutions implemented in this project include the installation of two 3000-kilovolt-amp, 12470-480Y/277-volt transformers, each powering a 4000-amp switchboard, along with 46 panelboards and 17 dry-type transformers. A 200-kilowatt diesel generator, coupled with two automatic transfer switches, ensures backup power.
Additionally, 900 high bay LED lighting fixtures equipped with occupancy and daylight harvesting features were added to enhance energy efficiency.
